We are looking for a Senior (Lead) Data Platform Engineer to join our Helsinki team. We are establishing an exciting new team with multiple openings and are open to both Senior and Lead levels of experience.
About the role
At Sievo, data is everything — we process more than 2% of global GDP in spend, and turning data at that scale into dependable products takes a serious engineering foundation. Now, we are establishing a new team to take responsibility of a central data platform that is to be the foundation for all products’ and teams’ data needs. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will build the architecture and systems that foundation is made of: controlled and reproducible environments, best practices for reliable pipelines that process and package large datasets, and the automation and quality checks that keep everything trustworthy as the system scales.
This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, software engineering, and platform ownership. You will design and build architecture and systems that support the various needs of our data pipelines, data products, and multiple engineering teams working with the platform. You know how to build and manage solid environments and infrastructure for data pipelines, can help other teams design maintainable pipelines, and apply solid software engineering practices — version control, testing, automation, and reproducibility — so the products built on top are dependable. Think of it as a data engineer with a product-development mindset and the engineering rigor of a software engineer.
You will work closely with data engineers, software engineers, engineering leadership and all product teams — gathering technical requirements, making sensible architectural trade-offs, and sharing ownership of the platform you help build. This is not a single-project role: in the longer term the work reaches across teams, giving you a hand in shaping Sievo's data architecture as a whole.
What you'll do
Build and maintain the common Databricks infrastructure the data platform is built on
Set up and own controlled, reproducible environments and cloud resources — permissions, deployment patterns, infrastructure-as-code, security, scalability, and cost efficiency
Design and build the overarching data architecture for the platform
Build best practices for data pipelines that process and move large datasets between systems, with a strong emphasis on maintainability and reliability
Help other engineering teams onboard to the central data platform
Help other teams design their data architecture and processing flows
Build foundation for common monitoring and data quality checks and validations so that our data remains trustworthy and understandable
Apply software engineering practices throughout: Git-based version control, CI/CD-style workflows, automated testing, and reproducible, production-quality code
Gather technical requirements from internal stakeholders, communicate trade-offs clearly, and work with the team to take deliverables through to production
Troubleshoot platform and integration issues, fixing root causes rather than symptoms
What we're looking for
Solid data engineering and ELT experience building maintainable data pipelines written in code rather than relying on managed cloud tooling
Strong experience with cloud data technologies, preferably Databricks and Azure
SQL and Python skills for processing and moving large, complex datasets, and experience with distributed processing such as Spark
A data architecture mindset and a wide technical perspective — comfortable seeing how data moves end to end rather than working within a narrow slice
Strong software engineering practices: Git/version control, automated testing (you write tests as a matter of course), and clean, reproducible, maintainable code
Hands-on experience and solid skills with agentic development
The judgment to recognize what a healthy system looks like — caring about metrics, monitoring, and long-term health
Ability to take ownership and deliver as part of a team — balancing independent work with close collaboration
A growth mindset and a can-do attitude
Strong communication skills, with the ability to gather requirements, explain technical trade-offs, and collaborate across teams
Bonus points for
Experience with building large-scale data platforms or data architectures
Experience with procurement, ERP, or accounting data, or other complex enterprise data domains
Experience with infrastructure-as-code and platform/environment ownership (permissions, security, scalability, cost efficiency)
Experience with version-controlled transformations (e.g. dbt) or semantic/data modeling
Familiarity with polyglot environments and adjacent tooling (e.g. YAML, C#)
Our salary range for a Platform Data Engineer is based on the job level:
Senior Platform Data Engineer 5300 – 6500 eur/month
Lead Platform Data Engineer 6200 – 7400 eur/month
We are open to discussing higher compensation for particularly senior profiles.
This role is ideal for a Senior or Lead Data Engineer with real software engineering depth who wants to help own and evolve a data platform with their team — building and operating dependable environments, not just individual ELT jobs.
Why you'll love this role
You'll be the engineering backbone of a strategically important, fast-evolving engineering initiative — one whose scope is set to grow. You'll have the autonomy to shape the architecture, choose the right tools, and set the engineering standards, working directly with engineering and product leaders to turn our data into dependable, production-grade capabilities.
