About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Director to lead our Helsinki-based Central Technology organization of 30+ engineers. Your organization plays a critical role in ensuring reliable service for our customers while making high-leverage impact through empowering market-facing engineering teams to iterate fast and innovate on the platform that you provide. Your teams are responsible for our technology platform consisting of the data platform, shared backend services, analytics and front-end platform, and cloud infrastructure. You will report to the SVP of Engineering, lead five engineering managers, and partner with the Product Director of your area.

As the Engineering Director, you will be accountable for delivery, technology, and people in your organization. You will set the organization up for success and guide your engineering managers to produce high-impact outcomes with their teams. You will be working closely with cross-functional stakeholders and other engineering teams to drive alignment. Partnering with the Product Director, you ensure that your technology keeps evolving towards the right long-term direction while unlocking the most valuable, short-term needs of market-facing product teams to make continuous business impact.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure that your teams build our platform technology towards an aligned, long-term direction in increments that provide continuous value through unlocking the immediate needs of market-facing product development.
• Inspire, empower, and coach your engineering managers to grow professionally and achieve a high level of performance with their teams.
• Establish practices for crisp execution within your teams and maintain clear alignment with stakeholders regarding dependencies, timelines, and progress.
• Ensure that our services run reliably in production and meet the SLAs.

We're looking for someone who

• Wants to exceed the expectations for the performance and impact of the organization but is also keen to maintain our diverse and inclusive, healthy work environment.
• Is seasoned in leading software development organizations in a manager-of-managers capacity with accountability over technology and deliveries.
• Has a track record of leading the development of platform or backend technologies where the impact is made through enabling other engineering teams.
• Can dive deep into the product, technology, and execution where needed to ensure that the teams find the right trade-offs between short-term impact and long-term direction.
• Has a good understanding of modern cloud technologies, preferably including data-processing systems and platform technologies.
• Excels in communication and collaboration with engineers, managers, and cross-functional stakeholders in English.
