I joined Sievo as a Presales consultant on the 2nd of January. It was over a month ago, but I vividly remember the nervousness of the first day, the welcome from new colleagues and the excitement of a new challenge. So far it has been a great ride and I have learned a lot of new things. Here is a list of a few surprising things that I have noticed during my first month here:
The clients, as well as the people working here, are from all over the world.
Most of the daily discussions are either in English or Finnish, but I’ve also observed discussions in at least Swedish, French, Spanish, German and Russian. Talk about an international environment!
Location, location, location
Having the offices in the heart of Helsinki has been a lot more exciting and convenient than I had expected. The wide range of lunch options available within a few hundred meters is great. And af-ter work, you can enjoy everything Helsinki has to offer – everything is here and we are in the middle of it!
It’s all about the perks (it is not)
The company culture is not just about the perks, but the perks certainly help.
When we think about the perks, all the usual suspects are there: great coffee, variety of teas, fridge full soft drinks, fruit, cookies, lunch vouchers, vouchers for culture and sports – you name it.
Prestigious clients and partners
I’ve only been here a short while, but I have already been involved with customer cases where the clients are global players, Fortune 500 companies. I’ve also had a chance to work with some of the top consulting firms. Not exactly what I had expected for the first month!
Speed of growth
I can sense that business is blooming and the company is growing! The year has barely started and already many new faces have already joined the team. I joined at the start of the year with 3 other people and 8 more have joined since.
When you join, you’ll be “the new guy” for a while, but it will be a surprisingly short while.
Celebrating the accomplishments, big or small
Having fun is part of the DNA here. Office parties are common, both planned and unplanned. There are weekly get-togethers with the whole company. Usually a reason is found, big or small, to celebrate and have some cake or champagne.
Trust placed with employees
The most surprising revelation has been the level of trust that is placed with each of the employees here. There are very few formal processes that you need to follow. As long as the job get done, you are free to do it as you see fit. In the end, it is the result that count. If you get work done better by working the day from home or by going to the gym in the middle of the day, go for it!
That’s my perspective as a newcomer to Sievo. If you’re looking for a new career challenge, have no doubt – this is the place to be!
