Rise and shine. Start the day right with Kellogg’s corn flakes, and while you’re at it, start your company’s spend forecasting journey with Sievo. That’s what our guests experienced at a recent breakfast seminar at Musiikkitalo, Helsinki.
The event kicked off with Sievo’s Co-Founder Sammeli Sammalkorpi as he took everyone on a journey from the Sievo basics to world class spend management, and how a two-man company grew into what it is today.
Then it was time for our much awaited guest speaker.
‘We may have the common journey, but we will all have different paths to get there’, Michelle Palmquist, Senior Finance Director of Kellogg’s, began, as she started to let the attendees in on the 100+ year heritage of Kellogg’s, and how cornflakes was actually created by accident.
Accidents. Human errors. All that and more Kellogg’s faced prior to Sievo. They used to have a bunch of separate excel files. It was manual, and they had lots of issues, with wrong inputs, and wrong formulas. A lot of inherent knowledge and historical information that could have been valuable had been lost in the process.
Then came Sievo. A tool that could be used cross-functionally, Sievo’s spend forecasting solution could be used between procurement and finance, leadership and category management. It was something that people could get into more value added analysis versus just number crunching.
‘This is key: it doesn’t really matter how big the company is, whether it’s small, medium or large, whether it’s global, or just regionally focused, you want a system that is truly scalable’, she noted. The global design and scalability of Sievo is dynamic enough to be able to account for acquisitions and divestitures, new product lines, and even line extensions. Automated data integration and collection of that information will be all in the reports. A scalable solution to roll out procurement forecasting technology across all regions.
Sievo has also helped in providing the information needed to do estimate comparisons, offered an effective and efficient way to be able to look at risks, opportunities and reporting. It is not just about giving all the information in one place to be able to look at it globally, but how to proactively use that information to capitalize on the opportunities as well as actively mitigate risks.
‘It is a one-stop shop for procurement’, Michelle described the system. Intuitive and user-friendly, that even those who are not tech savvy can get into this tool and use it. She then tells that it is more of a shared responsibility and co-ownership of the information, and given to everybody at their fingertips.
To end the formal presentations, Tuomas Vierros, Presales Consultant of Sievo, presented a demo of how spend forecasting with Sievo works and explained the more technical side of the tool, which raised a number of interesting questions from the audience. The event ended with small group discussions from the attendees – over a bowl of Kellogg’s corn flakes, of course.
